"Die Siedler 7" / "The Settlers 7" by Bluebyte/Ubisoft finally hit the stands some days ago.
The portraits below are actually the last characters I did for "The Settlers 7". Did them in October 2009 - I think I already started doing some work for Marvel then.
They are portrait-only characters. Some of these were used in 2D like you can see them here and some (the bit more rough looking ones) were used as concepts for 3D models.
I had a lot of fun with these - less restrictions and more time for rendering.
And these characters are different from the ones I posted in my last blog post. These are Campaign Characters - they were used in rendered cut scenes.
So these concepts had to be more detailed and rendered more carefully than the in-game characters.

Die Siedler 7 / The Settlers 7
"Die Siedler 7" / "The Settlers 7" by Bluebyte/Ubisoft finally hit the stands some days ago.
I did most of the character designs for the game and a big bunch of 'em you can see here.
The kind of style and the bodytypes were already defined when I came to the project, so it's all a bit of a mix of my style and a style the guys at Bluebyte had in mind.
The biggest challenge was to keep the design simple and readable. Even zoomed out the characters had to be easily recognizable. I got a lot of input from my A.D Michael Filipowski about this.
Considering stuff like this, or the limitations of the 3D-realization and animations was completely new to me. But I grew into it after while I think. :)
I started working on "The Settlers 7" in mid 2008, so some of the characters below aren't actually the freshest anymore. ;)

Dr. Sketchy, lifedrawings n stuff
Some sketches for a change.
The first bunch is from the last Dr. Sketchy session. If you don't know what it is all about just check the last blog post by the wonderful Steffi Schütze
I'm still trying to get used to this kind of drawing again, searching for the right tools to be effective. But it's really fun and winning an artbook doesn't hurt either. xD
And here some lifedrawings and inksketches(from movie stills refs).
We(Steffi , Regina and me)were sitting in a coffee shop on a second floor in a mall, hence the perspective on most of 'em. ;)
