NEW BLOG URL!

Attention folks! You just arrived at the end of the blog!!
I finally moved my blog over to a more fitting and narcissistic URL - http://christiannauck.blogspot.com/
That should it make easier to find the blog. I've grown to dislike creatively named blogs, because they're harder to find in the net and my google reader.  ;)

So if you still wanna put up with my stuff, please update you bookmarks, feeds whatsoever! :)

Dr. Sketchy

Yesterday my friends Steffi, Regina and Stephan and I were at Berlin's Dr. Sketchy again.
Had an awesome time again. Good thing it wasn't so hot anymore.

Used almost only one tool this time. A thick 3B pencil or something like that. Just felt right.

Incorruptible #10 cover

Another Incorruptible cover. :)
I was lucky to have the help of the lovely MissMatzenbatzen aka Steffi who made the clockwork parts in Illustrator. Painting 'em would've been a pain in the ass and wouldn't have looked half as good.

I realized too late that I used a very similar composition on my Jazam cover a few month ago. Anway, idea and end-result looks different. ;)

Comicsalon Erlangen

Two days ago I came back from the Comicsalon Erlangen, the biggest comic-con in germany. Compared to cons in the US it's really small I guess, but it was so much fun again!

It's every two years and I was there for the fifth time and this time was one of the best. I had a blast!!
The weather was amazing and everyone seemed really relaxed.
It's a small town in Bavaria, so wherever you go you'll meet someone you know. So finding the right party in the evening is easy, you never have to walk more than ten minutes.

...ah...so great...I miss it!

Thats one of the last photos we took, right before we left. We tried to make a little band-like shot and surprisingly it kinda worked. ...? The evening sun made this look kind of retro, so I had to make this little fake "cd-cover". ;) Just beeing already a bit Erlangen nostalgic I guess.
Didn't changed the colors, just slapped half assy some fonts on it.

On the photo are from left to right Simon, Regina, myself and Yann. Steffi was there as well, but she took the photo. :)

Incorruptible 9 and Jazam

Another cover I did for Boom Studios' series Incorruptible.
I really enjoy doing these! :) Working on them gives me the opportunity to try out some stuff.

Inking a bit messy like this is still new to me but really fun - I thought it would be a nice way to show the impact. I like how it turned out and works with the painted part of the image. :)

And here a cover I did some months ago for JAZAM!'s jamcomic "Nightshift".
The print size of the jamcomic is reeally small, so I tried to make it simple.

JAZAM! is a german comic anthology and Issue 5 is coming out soon: http://www.jazam.de/ :) Go check/buy it - I'm sure it will be great again!

Moviestills

For practice I'm doing some moviestills-ref paintings lately. Here are some of them.
Maybe I'll learn something from it. fingers crossed

Were supposed to be quick one hour paintings...but I guess some of them took more around 1-2 hours. I look at you Indy!

No overpaints, 3% colorpicking for reassessing! ;)

Incorruptible covers

First 2 of 3 covers I did for Boom Studios' series Incorruptible. (#7 and #8)
Had fun with these - tried to loosen up a bit compared to my Marvel work. Still looking for my own voice.
Did also a third one(my favourite so far), I can't show yet.

Die Siedler 7 / The Settler 7 Campaign characters

"Die Siedler 7" / "The Settlers 7" by Bluebyte/Ubisoft finally hit the stands some days ago.

The portraits below are actually the last characters I did for "The Settlers 7". Did them in October 2009 - I think I already started doing some work for Marvel then.
They are portrait-only characters. Some of these were used in 2D like you can see them here and some (the bit more rough looking ones) were used as concepts for 3D models.

I had a lot of fun with these - less restrictions and more time for rendering.

And these characters are different from the ones I posted in my last blog post. These are Campaign Characters - they were used in rendered cut scenes.
So these concepts had to be more detailed and rendered more carefully than the in-game characters.

Die Siedler 7 / The Settlers 7

"Die Siedler 7" / "The Settlers 7" by Bluebyte/Ubisoft finally hit the stands some days ago.

I did most of the character designs for the game and a big bunch of 'em you can see here.

The kind of style and the bodytypes were already defined when I came to the project, so it's all a bit of a mix of my style and a style the guys at Bluebyte had in mind.

The biggest challenge was to keep the design simple and readable. Even zoomed out the characters had to be easily recognizable. I got a lot of input from my A.D Michael Filipowski about this.
Considering stuff like this, or the limitations of the 3D-realization and animations was completely new to me. But I grew into it after while I think. :)

I started working on "The Settlers 7" in mid 2008, so some of the characters below aren't actually the freshest anymore. ;)

Dr. Sketchy, lifedrawings n stuff

Some sketches for a change.
The first bunch is from the last Dr. Sketchy session. If you don't know what it is all about just check the last blog post by the wonderful Steffi Schütze

I'm still trying to get used to this kind of drawing again, searching for the right tools to be effective. But it's really fun and winning an artbook doesn't hurt either. xD

And here some lifedrawings and inksketches(from movie stills refs).
We(Steffi , Regina and me)were sitting in a coffee shop on a second floor in a mall, hence the perspective on most of 'em. ;)

Finally..

...a new post.

Had a day off, so I finally finished this sucka.
....means I don't wanna work on it anymore so I call it finished! ;)

No story behind it besides the one in your head. :)
